2024 Hocking Valley Grave marking

Saturday September 28th members of Camp Charlotte attended 2 of the grave marking Ceremonies host by the Hocking Valley SAR. Turn out was surprising large considering the wet weather, Even General George Washington was in attendance. The first ceremony took place at St. Michaels Cemetery in Baltimore Ohio where 4 patriots were honored for their service in the American revolution the keynote speaker for both events was Pastor Ed Bonniewell which did a fantastic job of presenting both “Thomas Jefferson and the Barbary Pirates” & “Samuel Adams, The Much misunderstood Patriot” .

2024 September Chapter meeting

The September 2024 chapter meeting of Camp Charlotte on Tuesday the 25th at 7:00 pm. We had a number of members in attendance as this meeting had a couple special events.
President Kevin Driesbach was presented with the Bronze Hanna White Arnette Award from the Local chapter of the Pickaway Plain DAR. The medal is one of DAR’s newest recognition’s and It may be awarded to a member in good standing of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) or Sons of the Revolution (S.R.) for unselfish devotion, tireless efforts, and assistance to the DAR; and who has dedicated his time, energy, talents, and/or resources to the organization in support and furtherance of the DAR mission of historic preservation, education and patriotism. Another event was the induction of Camp Charlotte’s newest member Robert Sellars.

2024 9-11 Event at Ohio Christian University

September 11 we had a pleasant evening attending the program at the Ohio Christian University campus. The Color Guard unit of the Camp Charlotte SAR had the distinct honor to present the Colors for the opening event. With the Circleville barber shop chorus and the Pumpkin Show band all performing various Patriotic musical pieces during the presentation. Speakers included the invocation given by Ohio Treasure Robert Sprague and a welcome statement by the Mayor of Circleville Miss Blanton. The Pledge of Allegiance was given by Ohio State Representative Brian Stewart. The main speaker was former Secret Service Agent Tim Miller.

2024 Gen. Anthony Wayne Memorial

August 24 the members of Camp Charlotte had the honor to attend the new memorial being dedicated in Defiance Ohio by the Northwest Territory Chapter of the SAR. This monument is 3 years of hard work and organizing the placement of the outstanding monument. Though the park in which it stand stretches along the river side of the Maumee river, it is a stunning object to look at and read the inscription that is placed on it.

2024 Battle of Blue Licks Ceremony

Saturday 17th Camp Charlotte had the privilege to attend along with many others SAR and DAR chapters from other states to celebrated the 242nd Anniversary of the Battle of Blue Licks. There were 32 total Musket men who would line up to pay tribute to those fought in this battle. The day was rather warm in the upper 80’s but that didn’t keep us from the ceremony at hand. Later that day the reenactors took part in a little presentation of the battle that took part some 242 years ago. The highlight of the day was the introduction of the newest member of the Daniel Boone linage as there were many in attendance.

2024 Mount Oval ‘Down on the farm’ event

So Saturday the 27th members of Camp Charlotte SAR and the Pickaway Plains DAR attended the festivities at the Mount Oval Down on the farm event. We were placed in a nice shaded barn with a cool breeze which was welcomed, many other activities were available all center around 1700 – 1800 farm life with a few modern exceptions the Log cabin was built shortly before Ohio became a state and was moved to the grounds as a museum of early life on the Ohio frontier, it is currently being restore to period correct as possible be used as an example of early life, but safety has to be followed so some things need to come up to code.. Many passed through and were curious as who the SAR and DAR were and some were even interested in learning more with new memberships possible.

2024 Naturalization celebration

This something Camp Charlotte has not been a part of for a while, but one of our members had the opportunity to welcome a co-worker who had just completed his naturalization requirements. The ceremony took place at the Potter Stewart Federal Courthouse in downtown Cincinnati. The Cincinnati Chapter of the SAR was there to welcome the 60 new citizens with one of them being a co-worker of compatriot Max Demp. With the help of other department personnel they set up a surprise welcoming at work for Cris Lopez. When he saw what we set up for him he was grinning from ear to ear.

2024 VA Event free day at the Zoo for veterans

This year we were allow to be at the 2024 free day for veterans at the zoo from 9 to 2. All veterans and active duty were given a free day at the zoo for themselves and family to honor those serving and have served in our military. It was attended by many from as for north as the lakes to the Ohio river. Weather was warm and sunny. Many of the attendees wanted to take photos of the goofy old guys in HOT wool uniforms and wanted to know more about the SAR and the various activities we do. Commander Bob Hill brought a number of flyer promoting Liberty Camp in Logan Ohio and by end of day they were all gone. There were many representatives from Veterans Administration offering a lot of the benefits that the VA provides to the numerous vets that were there.
