Wednesday the 14th Camp charlotte members had the honor to be present at Honor Flight mission 156. With Compatriot’s from the Benjamin Franklin Chapter we welcomed home some 70 + veterans returning from their visit from Washington DC. The veterans were well received with the Columbus police bagpipers and the Knights of Columbus.
October 3rd members of the Camp Charlotte SAR had the honor to be present at the ceremony of the last 2 patriots who are buried in Maple Grove Cemetery in Granville Ohio who served in the American Revolution. Patriot Elijah Bryan was only one of 11 who were awarded the Badge of Military Merit this was later change to be what is now known as the Medal of Honor for his service in the American Revolution and is buried there. In attendance was keynote speaker Major General Matthew Woodruff of the Ohio Army National Guard.
September 23 Camp Charlotte SAR with compatriots from Hocking valley, Lafayette SAR and the Benjamin Franklin SAR were honored to be present for the flight of returning veterans from mission 155 from Washington DC. Attendance was huge and when the veterans came down corridor many were overwhelmed with emotion and thanked all of us lined up there. The high point was a veteran that was 99 years old from WWII.
September 20th Camp Charlotte SAR was asked to help dedicate the planting of the churches first Liberty Tree on the grounds. After the morning service we gathered next to the tree and a brief explanation was given on what we were about to do. Many of the churches congregation witnessed first hand the honor the SAR gives to many liberty tree ceremonies.
September 17th members of the Camp Charlotte SAR and Hocking Valley were asked to be present at the Taste of 1776 event sponsored by the Ohio 250th commission. The event was centered around items and activities of the American Revolution. This was a sold out event of 500 people the food served was that of he period, the members added to the event with the various display that were common during the period.
August 15th The Camp Charlotte chapter had the honor to attend the 244th Anniversary of the Battle of Blue Licks. The weather was constantly being watched as the threat of severe thunderstorms were forecast, however grace kept the storms at bay and the whole event went without issue. Though the humidity did increase the attendees overall didn’t seem to mind. Thanks to those who took the photos.
This year like last year Camp Charlotte was tasked to be present at 2 events on the same day July 25th. The Down on the farm event gave members of Camp Charlotte Sons of the American Revolution and Daughters of the American Revolution the chance to exhibit what these 2 organization offer.
This year 27 June the Ohio Society in conjunction with the Ohio History Connection and many others held a rededication of the tomb of the unknown Revolutionary soldier many months were spent in revitalizing the tomb and surrounding area and today they held a celebration of the completion of it. And our own Camp Charlotte members were in attendance and helped celebrate this milestone. Weather was prefect for being in uniform and many dignitaries including the Ohio Governor Mike Dewine and the Ohio National guard.
This past July 8 2026 was the 250th anniversary of the first reading of the Declaration of Independence for that celebration the chapter members of the Camp Charlotte Sons of the American Revolution, the Pickaway Plains Daughters of the American Revolution and the Chief Cornstalk chapter of Children of the American Revolution participated in the reading of the document and honor the Revolutionary war patriots who have been recorded as being buried in in the Pickaway County area. The event was held at the Mount Oval historical farm
This year with the focus on the 250th after the Camp Charlotte attended the Ashville 4th of July parade event we traveled down to the village of Williamsport to assist in the opening of the 250th celebration event at Ballard Park. This was a first for Camp Charlotte SAR and the Pickaway Plains DAR chapters so planning was a little difficult but it all turn out well with the host being appreciative for the work involved. We presented the colors while the Circleville Barbershop Quartet sang the National Anthem and then offered a 3 volley salute to finish off the opening ceremonies.
