August 15th The Camp Charlotte chapter had the honor to attend the 244th Anniversary of the Battle of Blue Licks. The weather was constantly being watched as the threat of severe thunderstorms were forecast, however grace kept the storms at bay and the whole event went without issue. Though the humidity did increase the attendees overall didn’t seem to mind. Thanks to those who took the photos.
This year like last year Camp Charlotte was tasked to be present at 2 events on the same day July 25th. The Down on the farm event gave members of Camp Charlotte Sons of the American Revolution and Daughters of the American Revolution the chance to exhibit what these 2 organization offer.
This Saturday Camp Charlotte Sons of the American Revolution and the Pickaway Plains of the Daughters of American Revolution held 2 Patriot ceremonies one at Prairieview Cemetery and the other at Meade Cemetery next to the Salem UMC church. Attendance was light but the day was bright and sunny.
Again this years the OHSSAR Board of Management took place at the historic Revolutionary fort in Bolivar Ohio. Camp Charlotte joined many others in the various discussions that will lead the OHSSAR for coming year ahead. On a more somber note the State Color Guard Commander after a very long stint as the Commander of the Ohio Society Color Guard passed his Command to the next State Color Guard Commander Kevin Driesbach and the Adjutant Color Guard Commander Jim Cooper of Centennial
Tuesday the 21st of July the members of Camp Charlotte took the time to install additional Pomeroy signs acknowledging the burial sites of more Revolutionary patriots in Pickaway County. This makes now 6 locations in Pickaway County where these cemeteries have patriots buried in their cemeteries. Grave markings are scheduled for August 8th at Prairieview at 10:00am followed by Meade Cemetery at 12:00pm
This year 27 June the Ohio Society in conjunction with the Ohio History Connection and many others held a rededication of the tomb of the unknown Revolutionary soldier many months were spent in revitalizing the tomb and surrounding area and today they held a celebration of the completion of it. And our own Camp Charlotte members were in attendance and helped celebrate this milestone. Weather was prefect for being in uniform and many dignitaries including the Ohio Governor Mike Dewine and the Ohio National guard.
This past July 8 2026 was the 250th anniversary of the first reading of the Declaration of Independence for that celebration the chapter members of the Camp Charlotte Sons of the American Revolution, the Pickaway Plains Daughters of the American Revolution and the Chief Cornstalk chapter of Children of the American Revolution participated in the reading of the document and honor the Revolutionary war patriots who have been recorded as being buried in in the Pickaway County area. The event was held at the Mount Oval historical farm
This year with the focus on the 250th after the Camp Charlotte attended the Ashville 4th of July parade event we traveled down to the village of Williamsport to assist in the opening of the 250th celebration event at Ballard Park. This was a first for Camp Charlotte SAR and the Pickaway Plains DAR chapters so planning was a little difficult but it all turn out well with the host being appreciative for the work involved. We presented the colors while the Circleville Barbershop Quartet sang the National Anthem and then offered a 3 volley salute to finish off the opening ceremonies.
This year for the 250th celebration the Granville Union Cemetery Board in partner with both the Son of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the American Revolution participated in portraying the various revolutionary war veterans buried at the Old Colony burying grounds in Granville Ohio. Our own Camp Charlotte members had a number of cast involved in the affair. The temperature for the day stayed a warm 90+ degrees so ice water was very important to be around to try and keep cool.
June 13th Camp Charlotte had the honor to participate in its first Compatriot Grave marking ceremony at Grandview Cemetery honoring Compatriot Robert A. Fetters by the Arthur St. Clair chapter SAR. and on the same day a Patriot grave marking even in the same cemetery in Patriots square for 5 Patriots John Blue, Thomas Clifton, David Jolly, Moses McLean and John Poe. Weather was very good during the whole day with plenty of sun shine. Many various other chapter join the Arthur St.Clair chapter in this special event.
