2025 May 23rd Memorial Service for Patriots of the Northwest Territory

This year the Marietta Chapter of the SAR hosted a Memorial Service for the Revolutionary War patriots buried in the Mound cemetery in Marietta Ohio. The event was well attended by many and numerous SAR and DAR chapters were present even the West Virginia Society Captain James Neal Chapter traveled to attend the memorial services. The Master of Ceremonies Doug Pettit welcomed everyone and thanked them for attending. During the event one of the highlights was having Michael Halbert as Lafayette give a brief speech thanking the people of Marietta and remembering some of the patriots buried in the cemetery who served under his command. As with many of the attendees the Camp Charlotte members traveled down to help out with Color Guard duties and wreath presentations. The weather was very nice and mild to keeps things cool.

2025 Lafayette Farewell Tour

On May 12th There was a special event as one of our Camp Charlotte members went down to Louisville Ky. to participate in the ceremonies of the Marquis de Lafayette return to the interior of the newly form United States of America as he traveled to thank the Americans and wish them well. There were many attendees with many in period clothing.  An added touch was the presence of the 3rd United States Infantry Regiments “Old Guard” fife and drum Corps. The main activity was the crossing of the foot bridge that Lafayette crossed over the Ohio into Indiana which was reenacted with many in the procession.  Once over to the other side a Patriot Memorial Ceremony a Liberty tree dedication and grave marking ceremony took place at the Veterans Memorial Park. This was hosted by the Indiana Daughters of the American Revolution Ann Rogers Clark chapter. This was followed by a Military Tribute 24 gun salute and unveiling  of the Pomeroy Foundation Marker.

2025 May annual State Conference

This year State Conference was held at the Hilton Garden Inn at Austin Landings in Miamisburg Ohio May 2nd through the 4th. This was a very busy Conference with a Friday Social, Youth awards Luncheon and Awards dinner and with the swearing in of the new officers on Sunday.  Many awards were given out and our Camp Charlotte chapter President, Secretary and Vice president receiving various awards. Though our secretary and 1st Vice President were not in attendance the awards given at the May Camp Charlotte chapter meeting.

2025 Mount Oval oration event

On Saturday April 19th Camp Charlotte held their youth oration event at the Mount Oval historical farm located in Pickaway county. This years event we had 3 contestants which all were invited to compete with the winner going to the state youth oration event in May the first place winner was Bella Patete pictured with the Ohio State Color Guard Commander Bob Hill and the second place winner Haven Leasure picture next to Richard Minshall Oration Chairman Ohio, SAR. The room was full of parents and other SAR members to witness these fine young people. Later the chapters of Hocking valley, Camp Charlotte and Marietta provide a Color guard salute to the activities at Lexington and Concorde with the Ohio State Color Guard Commander directing.

2025 State house 2 lights for Tomorrow State House event

Friday April 18th we had the honor to participate in a celebration on the State house west lawn for the 250th event of Paul Revere’s ride. Many were in attendance include the ladies for the local DAR chapters, the various local news companies were covering the event which was air later that evening and into Saturday. Members of the Hocking Valley and Camp Charlotte provided opening Color Guard duties with a musket salute in honor of Lexington and Concorde. At the end of the ceremony the state house cupola was lit with 2 individual light that were a symbolic gesture of the start of the Ohio 250th year long celebration.

2025 Elizabeth Sherman Reese DAR 125 birthday party

So Saturday the 12th we were invited along with others of the SAR Color guard unit to celebrate the 125th birthday of the Elizabeth Sherman Reese chapter of the DAR in Lancaster Ohio. It was a very enjoyable party at the local Knights of Columbus location as we fellow-shipped with other members of the DAR and our local Pickaway Plains DAR as well, all with great food and great conversation and tea. There were Bob Hill, Al Gummere, Don Miller and Tom Hankins (Hocking Valley SAR) and Max Demp (Camp Charlotte SAR) providing the Color guard duties with 2 ladies for the DAR participating as well.

2025 Benjamin Franklin chapter grave marking ceremony at Berkshire cemetery

So today March 30th we had a very successful grave marking ceremony in Sunbury Ohio at the Berkshire cemetery. The Benjamin Franklin chapter member Scott Humphrey officiating the event with Camp Charlotte, Benjamin Franklin, Hocking Valley, Richard Montgomery and Cincinnati chapters providing Color Guard duties. The weather was a little threatening but thankfully held off till the ceremonies were complete. Overall it was well attended with many from various DAR chapters were in attendance.

2025 Ohio Society Daughters of the American Revolution State Conference

Camp Charlotte was invited to be with the Ohio Society Color Guard unit to present the colors for the Ohio Society Daughters of the American Revolution State Conference. members of Hocking Valley and Richard Montgomery were also present which added to the open ceremonies. Lead by the State Color Guard Commander Bob Hill we were warmly welcomed by the organization with Bob getting his share of the attention, that helmet sure attracts the ladies. All the ladies in attendance were dress in their finest which really add snap to the whole event. In attendance and speaker for the evening was DAR President General Pamela Edwards Rouse Wright of Texas.

2025 George Washington’s birthday Celebration

So this Saturday 22 of February the Benjamin Franklin Chapter of the SAR hosted the birthday celebration for General George Washington at the Clintonville Women’s Club. In attendance where many SAR and DAR members to enjoy the music of Cap City Brass. The keynote speaker was presented by Ben Heckman and his re-enacting of Benjamin Franklin. Overall the entire event was very entertaining and informative. Members of the Camp Charlotte Chapter and Marietta Chapter under the direction of Ohio Society Color Guard commander Bob Hill presented the Colors for the open ceremony.
